Overall it was a good experience. I made a reservation via booking dot com and picked up the car at the Santorini airport. The process took maybe 10 minutes. The car itself was decent. we had Jeep Renegade (hybrid) which was fun to drive. See picture. It was spacious enough and also powerful to tackle some steep roads on the island. It was also automatic, and had a rear view camera which was nice as well. I used my U.S. passport, a U.S. drivers license (no international endorsement) and 1000 euro deposit from my credit card (I used Wells Fargo Autograph while traveling) and we were good to go. After returning the car at the same spot at the airport Sixt parking lot, and prior filling it up at a gas station right next to the airport I received my 1000 euro deposit back within a day. But I took away one star because of these: - the customer service wasn’t the greatest. They give you a local phone number, no WhatsApp, website chat, etc. When we dropped off the car I wanted to confirm if they received it back (as the Sixt counter at the airport was empty) but I couldn’t call them because I don’t have a local phone number. Eventually I found an email address: customer.service at sixt.gr - the car had some weird moments when it would lock up and wouldn’t start. I was able to get it solved but it wasn’t a good feeling. But maybe it’s a hybrid issue. I don’t know. Otherwise I highly recommend getting a car if you want to explore Santorini. Taxis would be too expensive and buses are too few.

We had a pleasant experience here. I did get full coverage for the Fiat 500 i rented, so i cant comment on any of the issues others had. However pickup and return was really easy and pleasant.
