I was worried as most brand-name car rental companies have very low review scores in Bucharest, and I was looking for about a day to pick one - but rather this than an unknown company, since I used Sixt before in other countries. I have decided to go with them. I have booked through Booking.com, not their official website. Seemed like a good deal wasn’t the cheapest, not the most expensive. Upon arriving, just follow the car rentals board, and you will find the desk within less than 5 minutes. ( I saw people complaining about this, but just use your brain. Romanians speak English, so you can ask.) Now the worst bit is them trying to convince you to take their insurance. Makes you confused even if you are a seasoned traveler. The agent wanted to up-sell “Sixt insurance” for €138 for 4x days. That was literally double of what the car cost was. I asked if the insurance that it comes as standard with would be enough, and he said, “We don’t recognise the insurance of other companies.” I’m like, what? He said it’s fine, but if anything happens, you will pay €750. Then again, how when the deposit was €450? He said read the small print, etc. I don’t like the tactic of confusing clients and being pushy about selling you something that you already have the car with. Anyway, I have decided to take my luck and just not buy the extra insurance. Although I was worried if I scratched the car, these people will literally take €1000+, I have never had this push or worrying with any other Sixt rental. They then take you to the car park that’s about 3 minutes away ( I again don’t understand why people complain in reviews that it’s a short car ride away. This is probably the same in most airports in the world) to pick up the car. They haven’t given me my chosen car but another brand. I didn’t mind much, but I asked since the car that I actually booked was literally there. Then I was told, “You have booked a group of cars, not a specific one.” It might be true, but probably they give the chosen cars to the people who booked through Sixt and not other platforms like booking.com, etc. The car was clean and had a few scratches, etc., but overall okay. Make sure you double-check and walk around, as in my case, 2x massive scratches have been missed, that we have then added onto the paper. Take videos and pictures as proof. After a 1000km, I have returned the car, with no issues and very good consumption. A very quick check of the vehicle upon returning, which was good, was done. They checked the petrol level, so do fill up. I have been told that I would have my deposit back in 3-5 days, but I had it back the next day. Overall, the staff was nice in the booth and outside, likewise. Although if they would not push with the insurance, it would be great! The experience turned out to be a good one.
